Who We Are

Origins

Artemis & Athena started as a creative writing platform dedicated to creating and celebrating stories that place Black women and other marginalized peoples front and center. It was meant to be a space for writers (of all backgrounds and skill levels) to be vulnerable, authentic, and to actively explore new aspects of their imagination while increasing and improving great representation of marginalized peoples in genres where we’re typically absent or excluded - sci-fi, horror, mystery, fantasy and speculative fiction. However, it expanded to become a creative storytelling brand that celebrates Black women and minorities through fashion, film, literature and education. I started and expanded this business to build a space where Black and marginalized women can move from the margins to the center, where they can dress, write, think and speak in ways that honor their multifacetedness. That is why our slogan is “A Space Where Black Girls Dream.”
